This manual explains a wonderfully easy-to-use technique that can help you or your patients who are experiencing low back discomfort. This method is an excellent example of how acupuncture and physical therapy may be used together to treat a challenging condition using microcurrent stimulation. Thus, yoga trekking will be the most beneficial and significant workout that will greatly aid in your quest for wellness. People are more likely to have discomfort as they age because the intervertebral disks naturally lose part of their fullness and flexibility. Postural stresses including prolonged driving, sitting at a computer, and using too-soft couches and beds can make pain worse. Furthermore, there are other physiological causes or risk factors for back pain. Radiculopathy, or the spreading of pain or numbness down a limb, is a symptom of sciatica. Either way, the back pain therapy outlined in this guide is appropriate for back pain. Physiotherapist Robin Mackenzie describes exercises in his well-known paperback book Heal Your Back that people with back pain can use to gradually relieve discomfort from a variety of ruptured disk disorders. These drills are appealing since anyone may perform them, including those experiencing acute symptoms. Along with its companion volume, Treat Your Own Neck, I heartily recommend this book to my colleagues in acupuncture and their patients. I had sharp pains running down my right leg from my back. Herniated disks were seen in the L3-L4 and L5-S1 junctures on MRI imaging. In one case, the disk debris elevated to the epidural area and squeezed the nerve. I could not sit for more than a few minutes at a time due to agony. My issue didn’t go better after treatment, acupuncture treatments, and several epidural injections; at this point, I began experiencing drop foot symptoms. This indicated a degree of nerve damage to my doctor, who recommended surgery again. Instead, I decided to give myself some acupuncture and work on the exercises in Mackenzie’s innovative and microcurrent treatments. After the regimen for a month, the illness began to worsen, but after three weeks, it has cleaned up totally. Since then, I’ve engaged in frequent, high-intensity physical activity, which has included two hikes in the Himalayas. This combined treatment has also proven to be quite beneficial for many people. The Heal Your Back book offers a number of beneficial exercises, but the Cobra pose from Hatha Yoga is the most important one. It is taught to the patient to lie face down, prone, on the ground. She takes a few steps off the ground, resting her elbows, and observes if the soreness or stiffness in her back gets worse. If not, you can carry on with the workout. The patient is advised to try shifting her hips to the left or right until she can find relief if irritation is noticed. When needed during the activity, this small hip shift relieves pressure on the sciatic nerve. Because we tend to bias our body toward leaning forward when using computers, sitting, listening to people, etc., this practice is quite valuable. By balancing the action of the chest muscles, the cobra stance helps stabilize the torso. It can assist in realigning a disk to its more consistent position. I’ve tried combining this exercise with electrical stimulation and acupuncture, with results. This is a suggested procedure: 1) Apply microcurrent polarized probe therapy or acupuncture to distal acupoints; these techniques have been shown to reduce sciatica and low back pain. These include Kid 3, SI 3 + UB 62, 40, GB 44, UB 10 + UB 60, and other elements Ling Ku + Zong Bai on the back of the hand that are opposite the rear’s side. Use microcurrent probes for 12 to 30 minutes each pair of locations, or provide strong stimulation for around 10 minutes with needles. When using polarized probe stimulation, the probe can be placed on painful areas on the back, and the – probe can be used to treat point sequences. The configuration is negative polarity, 10 Hz waveform, 75 1/4A. This means that the Acutron Mentor or other devices that provide microcurrent interferential therapy need two channels, or circuits. This indicates that a crisscross pattern is formed by the two leads from Channel A connecting to the top left and lower right pads and the leads from Channel B connecting to the upper left and lower right pads (see illustration). The pads have to be positioned so that the fluid between them passes via the lower spine’s uncomfortable area. 3) Use a series of milliamp and microamp interferential to get the best results. Four electrodes, each tuned to a distinct frequency, are used in an interferential treatment. This causes the body to produce a complex pattern that has pain-relieving and muscle-relaxing properties. A higher intensity current, measured in milliamps, has potent effects and has the potential to elicit muscular contractions. Compared to milliamps, microcurrent, also known as microamp, is subsensational and functions more energetically and regeneratively. I suggest running a microcurrent for 15 minutes after 8 minutes of milliamp I.F. For this application, the Acutron Mentor I.F. preset #5 is ideal since it automatically cycles through both steps. 4) The person can carry out the Cobra exercise as previously mentioned once the current flow is initiated via the pads. She is benefiting from both exercise and concurrent stimulation as a result. McKenzie recommends performing 10 to 30 repetitions every session and raising the entire body off the ground for 30 to 60 minutes each time before lowering. Every 30 to 60 seconds, the patient needs to completely relax and rest in between increments. The person should raise her body as far as it will go without experiencing any pain, allowing her body to rest entirely on the ground. The body should be raised using the arms and shoulders. 5) For the first higher intensity milliamp segment of the stimulation, begin the treatment and gradually increase the intensity until the patient says that it is comfortable. Exercise is acceptable during this phase, as long as there are no muscle spasms beneath the pads. When the present is changed to microcurrent, the Cobra repeats may continue. 6) After the patient has finished the pair, remove the pads and give them some time to unwind before they get up. 7) Anterior-posterior microcurrent stimulation via the torso is an alternative to mat positioning. Place one Channel A pad on the right pad and the lower spine of the abdomen to do this. Position the Channel B pads in the right stomach and lower back. Since milliampere might be uncomfortable when applied to the abdomen, I advise using microcurrent exclusively with this specific version. The Acutron preset I.F. #2 is suitable. When palpating, place pads immediately over any tender spots. The patient should ideally complete the Cobra exercise repetitions two to three times a day, if possible, with synchronized microcurrents. For optimal effects, the two variations of pad location could be switched around. Additional therapeutic exercises must be added to the schedule as the patient’s condition improves. For further information on proper back exercises, please consult McKenzie’s book or a licensed therapist.
