We are one of the top suppliers of supply chain apprenticeships in the nation, and we are of the opinion that anything that promotes and assists individuals in beginning an apprenticeship of any sort is very useful in a wide variety of different ways. Unfortunately, one of the obstacles that often inhibits individuals from even starting the application process is a lack of accessibility in their intended sector of employment. This is typically one of the reasons why people with learning disabilities are unable to begin the application process. The encouraging news that the government had announced the creation of a new taskforce to assist in addressing this issue was made public several months ago. The taskforce’s primary objective is to facilitate the access of apprenticeships for a greater number of individuals who have learning disabilities. As part of the overall objective of the government to generate three million apprenticeships by the year 2020 and to cut the employment gap for people with disabilities in half, this taskforce has been established. In spite of the fact that there are a meager six percent of persons with learning impairments who are now employed, more people are being given the opportunity to join the workforce. It is common knowledge that apprenticeships are the most suitable means of entry into the workforce for those who possess a diverse variety of skills and capabilities. Apprenticeships offer modest admission requirements, they allow apprentices to study while they earn, and by the time they finish their apprenticeship, they will have advanced farther up the professional ladder, regardless of where they choose to work in the future. Over the course of the previous several months, the taskforce has already convened on many occasions; the first time was to identify problems, the second time was to debate potential remedies, and the third time was to determine what recommendations may be given to ministers. Nick Boles, Minister of Skills, made the following comment: “Apprenticeships are a promise that we have made to provide individuals from all over the world with the opportunity to acquire valuable skills while working in a real job and receiving payment. In order to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be a part of the success story of apprenticeships, this taskforce will concentrate on ways in which apprenticeships can be made more accessible to individuals who have learning disabilities “Increasing opportunities to assist in closing the employment gap for people with disabilities The projected increase in access to apprenticeships is expected to be beneficial not just to those who are already looking for one, but also to companies who are having difficulty finding applicants who are qualified for the position. In order to provide everyone with the opportunity to be successful in their chosen profession, one of the most significant steps that can be taken is to make it easier for more people with learning disabilities to gain access to apprenticeships.
