Does it matter if a government is large or small? There is no denying that socialism is the path our nation is on. Democrats now differ from those of John F. Kennedy’s era. They are neither the working class or poor man’s party, either. They are the party in charge of the government. Having said that, George W. Bush increased the size of government while in office, despite the fact that Republicans were formerly known as the party of limited government. They were once referred to as the affluent party as big business was the source of the majority of their funding. Currently, president Obama and Hillary Clinton get more contributions from Wall Street and large banks than do Republicans. What is happening, then? The populace do not support either party. They are both engaged in a power struggle. It may be argued that they are both vying for power inside the administration. Perhaps they both like large government and are socialists. I overheard someone claim that the republicans’ little delay in becoming socialist is what separates them from the Democrats. It seemed that most of our politicians had moved to the left. The republicans have moved left into the progressive style, but not limited government; the most progressive ones have migrated toward socialism or massive government control. To be honest, although there are individuals on both sides of the dispute who seem to have clung to traditional American ideals, this is sadly not the case for most. The left portrays the right as radicals, bigots, and racists who want little government where large corporations reign and the poor and working man are disregarded, while the republicans label Democrats as liberals or socialists who want big government. I feel like we are debating the wrong issue. I think it wouldn’t really matter how large or tiny our government was as long as our leaders prioritized the good of the people and the nation above their own interests and those of their funders. Put another way, greed and selfishness are the real issues, not the philosophy. Considering how much big money influence and corruption there is in our administration, socialism looks like a preferable solution. People are gravitating toward socialism, which should come as no surprise to those who oppose it. That is the result of a small number of individuals gaining excessive power. Nowadays, a large number of people in our nation believe that the government is the only institution powerful enough to limit the influence of big money. That is most likely accurate, but the government is now corrupt, and big business and government have combined to create a huge mess. just for us, not for them. They are content with the status quo and know what they are doing. The people being decimated are the middle class and impoverished. However, there is one power that surpasses money. It is the people’s vote and voice. That does need, however, that the people pay attention to what is happening rather than letting our political leaders and candidates’ forked tongues influence them. The only difference between the two philosophies (big government vs. small government), at least in the ways they are showing up, is that the socialists make the extremely wealthy elite and the government have all the power, while the capitalists advance to the point where corporations control all the money and power. In the end, what actually makes a difference? In any case, the middle class and impoverished lose out. In order to have any kind of government that is efficient and open, we must put aside the debate between big government and small government and thoroughly clean our home. This is only possible if our companies fear no one will purchase their goods and our politicians fear they won’t be re-elected. As a people, we need to unite. If we succeed, that is. Many individuals in our world are hoping that we will fail if we keep fighting and assigning blame.
