Since 1667, crop circles have been seen in fields all throughout the globe. The first documented discovery, dubbed the mowing devil, was headlined strange news out of Hertfordshire. Since the 1970s, the crop circle phenomenon has grown tremendously, and in reaction, governments and the general public have launched campaigns to refute any evidence that any of them may really be real. The idea that bower and Chorley, two pranksters, are responsible for several crop circles created since 1978 has gained momentum, leading many people to relegate crop circles to the realm of trivia and harmless entertainment. institutional illiteracy? It’s really rather amazing how well the media has done in controlling public perception, keeping inquiries about their veracity to a minimum and seldom taking them seriously. The public is now supposed to believe that some person or people created these designs in the dead of night using rudimentary tools and equipment, that these designs, upon closer inspection, are works of perfect mathematical symmetry and constitute contemporary masterpieces, and that these people left the area without leaving even a trace of their presence. That is quite the leap of faith! We are free to disregard all reasoning in this instance based only on the government’s and the media’s assertions, even though if comparable evidence were shown to a jury in a court of law, it would be deemed definitive proof of the accused’s guilt or innocence. There could be more to this than first seems, and it’s not likely to be a prank carried out by a select few. A recent discovery, discovered June 23, 2015, at Torino Airport in Italy, was an additional work of intricate beauty. Experts estimate that it would have required at least 15 people to produce, working quickly to avoid detection. The discovery contained a binary code message that said, timeo et ferentes! (beware of et bearing gifts!). This message seemed to be a clear prediction of impending extraterrestrial contact. Once again, we can always brush this off as simply another hoax, but it’s best to be prepared, so it makes sense to at least acknowledge that there could be more to these crop circles than meets the eye and that maybe we should all take a closer look.
