Republicans and Democrats are unable to effect genuine change because of these obstacles. Even if a lot of people desire to, they are unable to really effect change. Due to party politics and the dominance of big money, they are unable to leave the system from which they are trapped. Since they are the issue, they are unable to resolve it. Applying the same mindset that caused the issue will not lead to genuine improvement. Before we can go forward, we need to address our flawed system. It’s similar to having our map out and planning our vacation while sitting in a broken-down automobile with no plans to repair it. Thus, for our nation to stand a chance at all, two things need to happen. The two main parties must first cooperate. Secondly, the dominant impact of special interest organizations and big money has to be reduced or eliminated. It makes no difference who becomes president, how brilliant their ideas are, or how capable of being a leader, if these things do not occur. Not much will change, so we may as well throw a five-year-old in there. The impoverished will continue to face tremendous suffering, and a disaster is imminent. Our country is now facing a crisis. Our country is drowning in a lake, and our present political scenario is like two individuals (republicans and Democrats) battling over who will be the hero. Although they both want to help the person, their desire to play the hero takes precedence over the desire to save the person. As a result, they battle over who will rescue whom, and since neither would let the other save them, the victim keeps screaming for aid and gasping for oxygen, but the fighting goes on in spite of the dire circumstances. Not only is this an emergency, but quick action and meaningful change are required. Our country is insolvent; there are serious international threats to it; segregation is growing as people clash over issues of gender, race, and class; over 17 million people are unemployed; over 46 million rely on food stamps; illegal immigrants are encroaching on our territory; drug use and violent crime are commonplace on many inner city streets; people suffer from a lack of access to high-quality education; and all of this is occurring while the wealthy continue to amass wealth and the rest of the population continues to suffer. Is everything hopeless? Indeed. But, if we can come together as a people to bring about the genuine change needed for prosperity and the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness, then there is hope. How can we resolve these problems? First, we must choose a independent president. By breaking down the party divide that binds our leaders, this serves to neutralize partisan politics. Secondly, it is our collective responsibility as citizens to remove dishonest politicians and install those that prioritize their nation before their funders. Third, we need to manage lobbyists and big money influence on our political leaders, including the president. Will it be hard to solve these issues? There isn’t any uncertainty. The large banks, Wall Street, unions, recipients of corporate assistance, environmentalists, companies, groups with strong lobbyists, and several politicians will likely put up a fierce battle. However, if we band together as a people, we can defeat the elite and start the process of turning our country around. Our combined voices and votes are the only force that I am aware of that is strong enough to defeat the power of money.
