Watchers of weight, a globe slimming down, and a lighter living. I swear, these phrases are the bane of my existence! Every time I start working with someone, we go into great depth about their diet, and far too often, I hear them say things like, My diet is pretty good, I am following Weight Watchers. At that moment, I attempt to disguise my dejection and start the arduous but necessary process of persuading my new client that doing this would be harmful to their health in the long run. But one thing I have discovered over the years is that this is not going to be an easy assignment. Indeed, it will need a persistent, well-informed assault, just like altering opinions about anything else. How should I begin? We start off by talking about fat and the reasons low-fat goods are unhealthy. In particular, I like bringing up the controversy around butter vs margarine. The fundamental idea is that butter has less processing than highly processed margarine. That indicates to me that the body will be able to use it as fuel rather than storing it as fat since it will be able to use it more effectively as an energy source. With margarine, this is not the case. The same is true for reduced-fat milk, low-fat yoghurts, and anything else that has fewer beneficial ingredients.
