This mansion, which was first constructed in concrete in the 1980s and is now situated on the highest point of an impressive rocky promontory in Saint Sauveur, Canada, has been given a makeover and transformed into a contemporary and beautiful dream home… There is a lot of material play involved in the creation of plush interiors. When the goals and hidden obsessions of the homeowners are coupled with it, even the most basic treatments may convert a house into a cozy hearth. The concept creates an out-of-the-box experience for the couple, who have invested their lifetime aspirations of a “dream home” into this property. The concept is based on the notions of modernity, high-end materials, and comfort, and it highlights the panoramic views that are available in this mountain-top refuge. Studio Act Design got off to a daring start by initially reversing the floors, which was based on the fundamental idea that the interiors would be remodeled and the outer envelope would be redesigned. In order to make the most efficient use of space and to take advantage of the breathtaking panorama that the one-of-a-kind location provides, the living areas were positioned on the upper floor. This was done so that the view from elevated above the treetops would be highlighted, while the more private areas were relegated to the lower floor. The entry hall and the circulation leading to the top story of the house were given special attention in order to make this design more appealing. In addition, the interiors were opened up to the natural surroundings outside via the use of floor-to-ceiling glass windows. These windows continuously frame the exteriors without allowing the elements to disrupt the environment that was maintained within. It has been given an understated elegance that borders on the avant-garde but is largely modest in approach; ensuring warmth and adhering to the constant feeling of a lived-in home that aspires to grow organically. This has been accomplished by generating a play of textures where smooth and rough finishes are juxtaposed.
