You may put your faith in the architects at CaSA to take an irregular floor plan and transform it into a house that is not only functional but also modern and cozy… The tiny flat that was renovated by Colombo and Serboli Architecture can be found on the highest level of the upmarket Sant Antoni neighborhood in Barcelona. An empty, uneven floor plan that is heavily sliced by diagonal contour lines is transformed into what the designers refer to as “the ultimate house for a young professional Italian lady.” The open-concept living and dining space is located in the larger area that overlooks the street and has two balcony windows that face south. This area is advantageous in terms of natural light and ventilation, as well as the enormous storage capacity that it provides. The architects are able to deftly incorporate a number of areas in a linear form, and in addition to that, the project offers a great deal of concealed storage space to ensure that the area remains organized. Different sections that meet are simply delineated by diagonal lines, which results in the creation of a layout that consists of two wedge-shaped volumes that house relevant functions. By further separating them according to color-coding a neutral palette, such as a sage grey for the inside of the closet and the bathroom block, an ash pink for the dining table niche, and a wine red for the entry recess, you may experiment with various textures. The inside of the house is covered with a paste that is rough, ivory in color, and has a tactile quality. This paste covers all of the Catalan vaults across the ceiling. This prevents the heat and sounds from the rooftop from entering the flat, while at the same time reducing the intensity of the exposure to light. Observing the way in which angles are handled in this project is a really exciting and refreshing experience. The lines are made more noticeable by employing slant counters, a prism-shaped shower cubicle, the camouflage principle, and custom items that actually complement one another. This is done rather than avoiding a floor plan that has a multitude of imperfections. Additionally, it fulfills all of the homeowner’s needs, much to the satisfaction of the homeowner!
