If you want to believe it, have a look at this apartment addition that was sculpted by Sumesh Menon’s extraordinary design. Over the course of ninety days in the previous year, Sumessh converted a tin tunnel into a chic guest room that was situated on top of a residential terrace in Pune. As a result of the five-inch thick glass wool insulating layer, the tunnel that measures 25 feet by 10 feet by 14 feet is able to keep its interior temperature at twenty degrees Celsius even when the weather outside is sweltering. “The insulated tunnel that is created out of curved metal frames, bent plywood, and coated metal is suitable to battle the varying temperatures of the city,” the designer adds. “The tunnel is great since it is designed like a tunnel.” This apartment seems to be a temporary building due to the tin exterior and its minty green color, which nearly gives the impression that it is a disguise. Indoors, the furnishings are created to represent urbane elegance, and the bathroom is designed with a motif that is reminiscent of nature. The entire atmosphere is a reflection of “living amidst forestry.” The end of the tunnel on the bathroom side is covered with frosted double glass with bamboo shoots sandwiched between the panes of glass. Limestone and other stones are used for the flooring and furniture, which further advance the theme of nature. When viewed in conjunction with the wooden flooring, a monochromatic vinyl print of birds flying between tree branches, which was originally a random photograph taken in Mumbai and has since been digitally printed and enhanced, covers the white curved ceiling and blinds. This serves to reinstate the natural element of the space. An enormous propeller window made of wood and glass adds a bit of drama to the bedroom, which is located at the other end of the room. Light penetrates the suite at dramatic angles. On the other hand, the bright and colorful flaps may be drawn over to prevent sunlight from entering or to provide protection of privacy. The bed, on the other hand, is the focal point of the suite. It has been accentuated with a backlit headboard and a curving footboard that is also illuminated. This smart architecture demonstrates that all it needs is a fertile imagination and a heightened aesthetic sense to add a comfortable room that is fully equipped to your home. Some of the added advantages of this smart architecture include the ability to withstand rattles, termites, and sound.
