Mimari studio assists the world’s most successful chemical business, BASF, in repositioning themselves from a vertical multi-storey typology to a horizontal architectural approach, therefore spouting new-age ideas… The global notion that “old must make way for new” is clearly articulated by the designers of the mimari studio. They reaffirm this with abundant proof via their design of basf’s 5500 sq. m. multi-level office premises in Istanbul, Turkey. This was done in accordance with the principle. The open-plan horizontal architecture is intended to modify work habits and work place culture so that they may co-relate with the new interactive environment. This design is a departure from the traditional, closed-off office space that was common in the past. The designers have worked in close collaboration with specialists from all fields, such as walls, ceilings, flooring, lighting, acoustics, landscape, and graphics, in order to create the ultimate spatial experience. The designers began with the fundamental concept of various elements complementing each other in a holistic shell to promote products that were manufactured by the company. In order to navigate the vast expanse of space that is split between two levels, the office was designed around two core areas, each of which featured a customized spiral staircase. These staircases not only helped to connect the two levels but also served as highlights that immediately captured the attention of visitors. The brightly colored and creatively lighted concentric rings that create the platforms at the foot of these staircases function as meeting spots and socializing centers, fully doing away with monotony and fostering contact… even inside the circulation zones of the building. The visual connection with the surrounding environment is maintained by the presence of geometrically formed modular chairs and meeting kiosks in close proximity to these steps. The development of a genuine and one-of-a-kind language of design components in accordance with the functions that they perform is a natural consequence of customized and creative furniture. Meeting shells (also known as office stops), rotating acoustic separation panels, and seating modules (also known as rom n jul) are a few instances of new-age workplace design that have been developed by ayca akkaya kul, the founding partner of mimari studio. In the conference and training rooms, you’ll find unique, irregularly shaped tables and chairs and couches that are ergonomically pleasant. These spaces are also attractively outfitted. Transparent glass partitions provide the separation of well-defined work places, such as those with hardwood or carpeted floors and ceiling patterns, while at the same time allowing for the seamless creation of additional space beyond the barriers. The project will be determined by a lighting system that is both environmentally friendly and efficient in its use of energy. ceiling panels with varying geometries and elevations that have been coated with pu (an in-house product) attract attention due to the irregularity of their compositions; as diverse but uniform lighting reflect ceiling and flooring patterns; A color scheme of orange, blue, grey, and white is employed in a strategic manner to mirror the corporate brand of the organization, and extra clusters of suspended led light fittings seem like sculptural art pieces. This office building is definitely an outstanding example of new age thinking since it has a space that is uninterrupted and offers never-ending reflections as a result of the mix of glass and lighting design.
