An exhibition that was invited to take place at the R. Blitzer Gallery in Santa Cruz, California On October 7, 2018, in Carmel, California – The Center for Photographic Art (CPA) is expanding its reach beyond Carmel, California, by hosting an exhibition and related events in Santa Cruz, California. The exhibition will take place at the R. Blitzer Gallery, which is the most prestigious art space in that city. The gallery is housed in a renovated warehouse that was formerly the location of the historic Wrigley chewing gum factory. The State of the Art (SOTA) exhibition is an invitational show that covers a wide range of topics and comprises fifteen Northern California photographers who are known for their creative work. On November 2, 2018, the show will begin with a celebratory opening celebration that will take place during Santa Cruz’s First Friday, from five o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening. The exhibition will continue continuously until November 29, 2018. In addition, during the month of November, a number of other SOTA events will take place, and all tickets will be made accessible on Eventbrite. Over the course of the whole month of November, we would be delighted to have you join us in investigating the intriguing and inspirational state of the art in photography. A pioneering exhibition of top Northern California photographers who investigate a variety of current themes is being shown at the Center for Photographic Art, and the organization is happy to welcome a broader audience to their exhibition. The following artists are participating in the exhibition: Brigitte Carnochan, Linda Connor, Binh Danh, Janet Fine, Sara Friedlander, Shelby Graham, Chris Johnson, Karolina Karlic, Bob Kolbrener, Robin Lasser and Adrienne Pao, Kathryn Mayo, Ryuijie, Jerry Takigawa, and Huntington Witherill. Digital imaging, gelatin silver, platinum/palladium, wet plate collodion, daguerreotype, and mixed media are just few of the mediums that are reflected in their photography. Their work highlights a wide range of contemporary and historical photographic techniques. Additionally, on Saturday, November 3, CPA will be hosting an on-site digital printing class hosted by Freestyle Photographic Supplies. This will take place in conjunction to the exhibition. Following the workshop, the California Photographers Association (CPA) will host a panel discussion titled “Breaking Boundaries.” Panelists include photographers Binh Danh, Sara Friedlander, Karolina Karlic, and Robin Lasser. The discussion will be moderated by Brian Taylor, the Executive Director of the CPA, who is also a photographer and educator. Wallace Baine, a former Santa Cruz Sentinel Arts Editor and freelance art writer, will also participate in the discussion. After that, on Wednesday, November 14, the community photography association (CPA) will be hosting a special event with the Honorable Sam Farr, a former long-time member of Congress, in recognition of his achievements and support of the photographic arts in the Monterey Bay region. CPA is hosting a themed online photography competition with the title “The Human Spirit.” This competition is a perfect compliment to the thrilling SOTA exhibition it is hosting. Ann Hazels, who is the Director of the Radius Gallery in Santa Cruz, and Rick Murai, who is a photographer, educator, and Assistant Director of the CPA, are selected to serve as our jurors. All individuals are encouraged to participate and compete for prizes of five hundred dollars. Our audience from all around the world will be able to see all of the submissions that are presented on the website of CPA. A presentation of prizes and a lecture by the jurors, both of which are expected to be entertaining and instructive, will take place on Saturday, November 17. At the R.
