In recognition and appreciation of women’s history month, the holiday retirement puts the emphasis on the accomplishments of women. the 15th of March, 2015, at Lake Oswego, Oregon — For a very long time, key events and prominent women who have made vital contributions to society in the last century have been identified with the history of the United States of America. These women have accomplished great things in their lives by achieving the right to vote in 1920, obtaining permanent status in the military in 1948, and breaking male-dominated barriers to become astronauts, race car drivers, business and military leaders, politicians, and professional sports figures. They have also won the right to be paid equal pay for equal work in the workplace. In honor of Women’s History Month, 4,132 female residents of holiday retirement communities were asked to reply to a survey consisting of four questions. The questions asked about the value of women’s rights, women as role models, and residents’ expectations for the future of women. * According to the results of a study, sixty-nine percent of female residents believe that gaining the right to vote was the most significant achievement for women in the 20th century and even now. Among those who took part in the study, there was a consensus among 33 percent of respondents that Eleanor Roosevelt, due to her outspoken advocacy for African-American civil rights, is the ideal role model for young women. It is crucial to highlight that 18 percent of senior women polled think there will never be a female president of the United States of America. However, thirty-five percent of respondents predict that the United States will elect its first female president within the next ten years. In response to the question, “What is your greatest goal for women in the future?”, 47% of respondents said that they hope women would one day get equal pay as that of their male counterparts. In addition to the poll, Holiday Retirement received narratives of influential women who had a part in the development of women’s roles as we understand them today. “over casual conversations, our residents may learn their neighbor was a former olympic medalist, the first african american female basketball player, or even the recipient of a prestigious military award,” said jamison gosselin, vice president of marketing, communications, and resident enrichment for holiday retirement. “there are thousands of amazing women who live at holiday retirement communities.” These ladies are a significant part of not just our past but also our future.
