September 30, 2018, Carmel, California — This year, Dance Kids of Monterey County is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and as part of the festivities, the organization has announced that it will be performing a miniature version of its well-known “Nutcracker: A Monterey Peninsula Tradition” on December 22 at Carmel Valley Ranch. Because the Ranch is undergoing repairs, the event will be hosted at the Golf Club House this year instead of the Ranch. During the event, which will take place from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., the show will start at 2:30 p.m. At the Sunset Center in Carmel, a complete production of Dance Kids’ “Nutcracker” will be produced and performed from December 7th through the 9th. Dr. Carl Christensen is the conductor of the Monterey County Pops! symphonic orchestra, which consists of 39 members and is included in the complete show. In addition, the performance will be the first time that a children’s choir will be singing onstage during the “Dance of the Snowflakes” portion of Act I. Relating to Dance Kids Richmond, the founder of Dance Kids of Monterey County, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is proud of its extensive spectrum of theatrical experience that it provides to the youngsters of the Monterey Peninsula. The company has a production history that spans over 24 years. Carmel Ballet Academy’s early shows featured “Nutcracker” and original spring musicals written by Walt de Faria, as well as a full-length spring ballet that was performed at Sunset Center. These works were created in the early days of the academy. People from the community, including a wide variety of young people and their families who were dedicated to theater, participated in Dance Kids, which was recognized for the fun-loving nostalgia that surrounded the show. The “Nutcracker” was no longer able to be performed at the venue because of its growing size, but the spring musicals continued to be performed there until they, too, outgrown the dance school. In 1995, “Nutcracker” relocated to Sunset Building, and it has continued to use that location as its home venue ever since, with the exception of the years while the center was undergoing renovations. “Nutcracker” presented by Dance Kids has developed into a spectacular show that is highly anticipated by both the performers and the community. Dance Kids of Monterey County has, throughout the course of the years that have gone, not only honored but also exceeded the initial goal that they had. This year is one that will be significant in terms of transformation and progress.
