Dance Kids of Monterey County, which is now in its sixth year of touring Monterey County, will once again deliver performances of “Cascanueces: A Folklorico Nutcracker” at South County schools in the month of November. Carmel, California, the 24th of March, 2018 — Dance Kids of Monterey County, which is now in its sixth year of touring Monterey County, will once again deliver performances of “Cascanueces: A Folklorico Nutcracker” at South County schools in the month of November. The rich culture of Mexico and the nations south of the border is celebrated via the seasonal ritual of telling stories and dancing throughout the holiday season. The concept of combining music from Spain with music from other Spanish-speaking nations in order to produce a “Cascanueces” has resulted in the collaboration of folkloric choreographers, local ballet dancers, and mariachi musicians. A total of ten pupils from primary schools in San Ardo, San Lucas, Greenfield, and King City will participate in a dance class with two folkloric dancers and one musician for a period of six weeks prior to the school performance. After that, these pupils will participate in the assembly at their respective schools, where they will perform alongside the professional troupe. Tchaikovsky’s masterwork will be redone by William Faulkner, a Jalisco harpist who was born in Salinas. Ten mariachi musicians will play the new version. The program features the four divertissements from the second act as well as the “Sugar Plum Fairy” solo, which is known for its popularity and is performed by a ballerina from Dance Kids while wearing a traditional tutu. Folkloric dancers practice four traditional dance forms from four distinct states in Mexico, each of which is quite different from the others. The curriculum, as a whole, helps to connect cultures, encourages personal development, and promotes an appreciation of diversity via the medium of dance. In anticipation of a vibrant and informative assembly, South County schools have booked the tour date of “Cascanueces” for the month of November 2018, which is the beginning of each school year. San Ardo serves as the starting point for the journey, which will also include stops at King City, Greenfield, Salinas, and San Lucas. It is possible for Dance Kids to have an influence on more than seven schools on a single tour date since at least two of the schools invite other schools to participate in their assemblies. During the month of November in 2017, there were over 1,500 audience members present, ranging from elementary school students to high school students. Last but not least, the day concluded with a concert at Hartnell College in Salinas, which took place in a music hall with just 250 seats and standing room only. Dance Kids of Monterey County is a non-profit organization that was established in 1993 with the purpose of providing all children in Monterey County with the opportunity to participate in the art of dance and theater. Over the course of its 25-year history, the group has staged over fifty shows, which include summer theater intensives that last for an entire month, conventional tale ballets, and full-length story ballets. An ongoing afterschool learning program is currently being supported by Dance Kids at a Monterey Peninsula Unified School District site. This is in addition to the company’s well-known yearly productions of “Nutcracker” at Carmel’s Sunset Cultural Center and “Cascanueces.” The husband-and-wife combination of Maria Luisa Colmenarez and Rudy Garcia, who were both directors and choreographers for “Cascanueces: A Folklorico Nutcracker,” were as advisers for the Pixar animated feature “Coco,” which was nominated for an Academy Award. Relating to Dance Kids The non-profit organization Dance Kids, which was established by Carol Richmond and has a production history that spans over 24 years, is proud of the diverse variety of theatrical experiences that it offers to children in order to encourage their growth and development. When the Carmel Ballet Academy was first established, some of the works that were performed there were “Nutcracker” and original spring musicals. Dance Kids was a community-based organization that attracted a diverse group of young kids and their families who were dedicated to the theater. It was recognized for its fun-loving memories around the musicals. As it expanded, the little theater was no longer able to accommodate the “Nutcracker,” but it continued to serve as the location for the spring shows until those productions exceeded the capacity of the dance studio as well. The performance of “Nutcracker” by Dance Kids has been transformed into a stunning and widely anticipated show by both the cast and the community. Dance Kids of Monterey County has, throughout the course of the years that have gone, not only honored but also exceeded the initial goal that they had. When it comes to bringing the traditions of dance and theater to the Monterey Peninsula, the Board of Directors, the Executive Director, and the Founder are all very proud participants. The purpose of the organization known as Dance Kids of Monterey County is to provide young people in Monterey County the opportunity to participate in continuous performances in the fields of dance and theatrical arts. The organization’s goal is to improve children’s moral fiber and have a constructive impact on their lives via the medium of the performing arts.
