Retail is experiencing a sea change as a result of the millennial generation. Millennials browse online, not in-store, and they scour the web for product comparisons, reviews, and discounts days before their shopping trip; however, the impact of physical spaces on the shopper journey has more potential than ever before. In this new era of retail, the experience should seem less like shopping and more like being in a communal lounge or a hands-on gallery. Followed by a sale in-store, online, or a combination of the two, shops need to be places where customers may test out things in any manner that makes sense to them, including playing with, tasting, smelling, and exploring them. This more advanced kind of retail entertainment seeks to put the narrative of the brand in the spotlight by using all of the store’s touchpoints, rather than just a single display. There is currently a wide variety of retail design solutions available on the market that are able to provide the end user with the experience that is so required and needed by the end user. The room is not intended to improve same-day sales (because you can’t really buy anything in-store), but rather to sell visitors on Samsung’s culture of innovation in order to enhance brand recognition after they leave the shop. It is important to take note of the reprioritization of narrative above in-person sales, even if removing transactions from a brick-and-mortar place is not something that the majority of people would suggest. Today’s retailers need to build brand destinations that are equally appealing to younger customers as well as customers of all ages. These destinations should be equally filled with items and experiences. This is the reason why, in this day and age as well as period, retail design has become such a big business, and this is also the reason why retailers will look to the offerings and expertise of a retail design agency to ensure that they are providing the shoppers of today with exactly what it is that they want and need as a shopper.
