REVISED LAST ON: JUNE 21, 2019 Due to financial constraints, large corporations used to be the only ones that could afford to print banners in full color. They could purchase hundreds or thousands of banners, which is why. Because the setup expenses for screen-printed 4-color-process (4CP) banners or displays were so high, orders in large quantities might lower pricing. Since they could not afford to purchase the banners at bulk discounts like the larger corporations could, small businesses could often only order a small number of banners, and most likely only one or two colors. I won’t be providing you with cost estimates for banner printing in this article. Instead, if you choose to hire a printing company to manufacture the banners for you, I’ll be presenting important information about what you need to know about banner prices. 90s screen printing and digital printing In the early 1990s, I opened a printing shop for banners and signs. The majority of small sign shops at the time did not have access to digital printers. As mentioned above, screen printing employing 4CP printing, which employs four base colors that are printed in a precise order to produce photographic or semi-photographic prints on banners or other displays, was required if a client wanted to order full color printing. Otherwise, setting up screen printing was and still is fairly expensive, so we couldn’t quote the majority of our clients. With pressure-sensitive vinyl and a graphic plotter cutter, banners and displays may be die-cut with a few colors printed on them. If you were printing small boxes, brochures, or the like with offset printing, full color images could also be printed using alternative techniques, but there were size restrictions. Banners could be stitched together by sewing vertically or between writing if a design was printed in spot colors, but full color printing made this impracticable. Even producing large format sizes that were akin to billboard size was challenging. In contrast to 25 years ago, you can now get full-color, wide-format billboard prints for a very low price. For example, the majority of billboards once had printed paper strips covering them. The billboard face is currently covered in enormous single-piece vinyl banners. In addition to being less expensive, they also have a very lengthy lifespan. The other day, I drove passed one that we put in place in 2001, and even though it has faded over the previous few years, it is still pretty legible 16 years later! Evolution of Large Format Printing in the 2000s When buying banners and displays for their enterprises or trade fair displays, smaller firms started to be able to afford the reduced full color printing prices with the introduction of roll-to-roll digital big format printers in the early 2000s. Large size printed images went from one to three colors to full color almost immediately, and many companies got on board. In a few years, the cost of printing a banner went from being prohibitively expensive to being easily affordable. Additionally beneficial to the consumer, depending on the quantity ordered, banner pricing decreased by anywhere from 25% to 75%. How to Locate Banner Printing Services at Reasonable Prices Let me provide you some advise on ordering banners from printing companies or services. I recall the suggestion. Early on in my business career, I discovered that you shouldn’t always buy something for the cheapest price. I am aware of businesses that have really low charges per square foot. Anyone looking to save money would undoubtedly be drawn to really low offers, right? The quality of the banners for that pricing is something you don’t want your potential customers to see, that is the fact. With that price, the product might originate from China and be made of subpar vinyl banner material and printed with subpar inks. Obtain samples of the printing and the materials at all times because not all printing from China is subpar. We import lots of vinyl and fabric banners, but only from a few printers who don’t print our clients’ banners with Chinese inks or printers. The inks typically come from the US, Italy, Germany, or Japan, while the printers are typically from Japan or Korea. Chinese inks are currently unacceptable to the majority of our clients. Finally, dye sublimation printed cloth banners may be something you want to consider if you intend to promote your company at trade show events and want to wow potential customers. Ask us about the price per square foot; however, the minimum purchase size is now 250 square feet. Even up close, the printing quality will impress you much.
