A whistleblower case that was filed not too long ago accused Quest Diagnostics of committing fraud against a state Medicaid program. The United States of America is home to a number of medical labs that are managed by Quest Diagnostics. According to the allegations made in the whistleblower case, Quest Diagnostics committed fraud against a state Medicaid program by charging it at rate that was greater than that of other customers. According to lawyers who specialize in securities and whistleblower cases in the state of California, bogus claims cost taxpayers millions of dollars annually. Fraudulent claims were submitted for payments of Medicaid-covered laboratory tests, according to the complaint. These false claims were made by asserting that the costs that were being charged were not more than the maximum amount that was payable in accordance with state legislation. According to the legislation, businesses are obligated to offer their services to Medicaid consumers at the same rate that they charge for their services to other customers. In the case, it is alleged that Quest Diagnostics charged Medicaid as much as $10.42 for an automated hemogram, which is a common blood test that the company invoices to other customers at a fee of $1.42. Those who work as securities lawyers and whistleblowers in the state of California argue that even little overpayments may soon build up. In a case that was quite similar to this one in California, Quest Diagnostics reached a settlement agreement valued at 241 million dollars. This particular settlement was the biggest one ever reached in accordance with the California False Claims Act at that time. According to lawyers that specialize in securities and whistleblower cases in the state of California, members of the general public who have firsthand knowledge of fraudulent activity against the government may assist taxpayers in recovering lost cash by coming forward.
