HIGH-RISE HOME WITH UNOBSTRUCTED VIEWS – INSIDE OUT!

Shalin Gandhi exposes a high-rise residence to the views of its surroundings while yet preserving an inner landscape that is just as captivating… The Patel Residence, which spans 2200 square feet and is situated in a single high-rise tower in the midst of farm houses and bungalows in an Ahmedabad suburb, is a straightforward, straight-lined, clutter-free space that has been designed by interior designer Shalin Gandhi of Shalin Gandhi Design Studio to cater to the personalities of its homeowners. Because the designer is already familiar with the client (having created for him on a few times in the past), the exercise is made easier for the designer because he is given carte blanche. He makes effective use of this familiarity to investigate materiality via a minimalistic approach. An enormous living-dining space that follows an open plan with the kitchen to one side and a deck to the other is accessible via a lobby that serves no use and opens out onto the living-dining area outside. As the four-bedroom house is rearranged into a three-bedroom suite dwelling, the demolition of some of the interior walls creates way for seamless spaciousness. This makes it possible to have rooms that are bigger and more luxuriously furnished. Playing with unrestricted views all around and in time with the open vistas, a sensible placement of the minimalistic contemporary-styled furniture together with a smart choice of materials adds a consistency to the design plan. Teak wood ceiling panels cleverly conceal the ducting components and extend into wall panels for crafted continuity. The most notable characteristic of this designer house is the abundant utilization of a wide range of glass in conjunction with the well-proportioned mix of wood as a frame material. The use of transparent glass headboards, opaque glass doors, back-painted glass closet shutters, a dining table with a glass top, and mirrors to create the illusion of more space are all examples of design elements that simultaneously portray fluidity and clarity. This apartment does not have a single wall that is shared by all of the residents, and it is open on virtually all sides.
