In order to create a one-of-a-kind workplace for photographers, Renesa Architecture Design Interior has conceived of the idea of reusing an old terrace in an adaptable manner. This will result in the transformation of 800 square feet of underused space. Coddiwompler Studios, which is owned and operated by photographer Vibhor Yadav, takes into account the underlying personality and allure of its original source. In order to include new architectural philosophies into the refurbishment, the architects modify the existing structural stability and the fundamental principles of the material philosophy that is accessible. The studio is anchored to the space since it adds to the old structure rather than withdrawing from it, which also gives the space a contemporary spin. The design creates places that are both ideal and adaptable, with each area having a different spatial character. These spaces range from a relatively open networking workshop zone to a private and intimate workstation that is tight and gallery-like, as well as an open terrace. Authenticity and a sense of belonging are both enhanced by the use of elements from historic architectural styles. The workstation, which is a great composition, presents a play of light via the wall of shuttered windows and blinds, and it is situated under a lovely traditional sloping tiled roof. The stairway that leads to the studio is a spiral staircase. The areas that are linked by archways and walls, as well as a background for the photographer’s work, establish acceptable frames for the photographer to work inside and create within. A raw material palette consisting of rough polished cement plaster that has been marked by the impact of time and used in conjunction with reclaimed wood that has been polished using the Tel-paani technique, as well as a monochromatic color scheme consisting of brown and gray, makes the entire space appear to have a monolithic character. The rough wall and floor finishes, in addition to the built-in cement furniture (worktable and seating on the terrace), serve as an appropriate base palette for the wooden furniture and elements to run along. The detailed joinery and clear polish of the cement furniture become features that add character to the space. Multi-purpose furniture is not only a practical choice for treating a small space, but it also adds an element of intrigue to the space. Additionally, up-cycled antique elements such as copper lamps, old table fans, and other similar items, along with patterns of wooden shelving and graphics throughout the space, give the studio a quirky edge. As it should be, Coddiwompler Studios displays a raw ideology that seeks to curate aesthetics and functions of modern use to old terraces that have fallen into disrepair. This ideology encourages the utilization and cultivation of wasted spaces into modular studios that can accommodate a variety of work typologies.
