An iconic edifice that can be interacted with via the use of a smartphone app is going to be designed by MVRDV. The building will be located in Esslingen, which is located in the southern region of Germany. In the small town of Esslingen am Neckar, which is located in the Stuttgart region of Germany, a building that was formerly used as a freight depot and has a rich industrial history is currently undergoing a transformation into a mixed-use structure that will house a university, housing developments, and retail stores. Furthermore, in order to establish an iconic identity for the small town, the architects strive to generate a building that showcases the town’s pride, its history, and its future while simultaneously opening the edifice to the surroundings and the users. The iconic structure, which appears to be a huge crystal rock, is intended to serve as a landmark that can be viewed from far-off hills and jet-setting trains. The facade follows the contours of Esslingen and the geography of its surroundings, which is brought into view by means of a sequence of pixels that come together to create a “Esslinger Room.” A set of steps, terraces, and platforms emerge and lead to the other side, where visitors may reach a viewpoint in the shape of the city center that is open to the public. From this vantage point, they can take in the sights of the vineyards and the hills that are in the surrounding area. The façade is partially mirrored, and it has fritted glass that contains photovoltaic cells that reflect the surroundings, the town, its hills, and the people who live there. Additionally, the facade displays a pixelated map of the region around Esslingen. There is a variety of information included inside each pixel, which includes the narratives of the city and the people that live there. One may uncover its wealth by using an application on their smartphone, which will result in the establishment of the town’s public library. At the bottom floor, the crystal rock opens out to the public plaza that is situated in front of the building. This space serves as a connection between the city and the building, and it also provides public facilities such as a restaurant, a café, and meeting rooms. The top floors have contemporary office areas that are designed to provide a healthy balance between work and personal life. The building, on the other hand, transforms into a beacon for Esslingen when it is lighted via its facade at night, so creating an exceptional ambiance. This transforms the public plaza in front into a new gathering place for the people who live there, as well as the next significant milestone for the city. Quite fittingly, the structure has been given the name “The Milestone!” Take a look at the pictures on the website indiaartndesign.com.
