In light of the fact that Marissa Lightsey provided our class with information on her position as director of career development at OBU, I came to the realization that her duty as a career coach is to assist students in marketing themselves to prospective employers. I had the impression that Ms. Lightsey would have the whole amount of class time to talk to us, but that did not turn out to be the case. I decided to do an interview with her since I was so interested in learning more about her career. In order to assist students and graduates of OBU in the creation and development of resumes and business cards, the Career Development Center is available. The classes that Ms. Lightsey hosts are also geared at teaching potential job hopefuls how to improve their online profile, particularly on social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn. It is important to call attention to the fact that Ms. Lightsey is the only operator of the career development center. It piqued my interest to learn about the talents that a career coach is required to possess as well as the methods that can be used to acquire those skills. Regarding Ms. Lightsey, she attended East Central University and received a master’s degree in human resource management from that institution. In the years leading up to her employment at the OBU Career Development Center, she had the opportunity to assist high school students in achieving their goals about their future careers. A willingness to assist other people is a need for a career coach, as stated by Ms. Lightsey. Whether you are searching for a job, attending your first job interview, or getting a job offer, all of these are times that are filled with excitement. Hiring a career coach may make it easier for you to participate in these amazing events. There is no other source of career services on the OBU campus outside the Career Development Center, which is the sole source of employment opportunities. In spite of this, Ms. Lightsey did bring out the fact that the majority of educational institutions normally provide students with access to a career services office of some kind. I was under the impression that Ms. Lightsey makes her services available to the general public before to doing the interview; nevertheless, she does not. The only people she assists are current students and graduates of OBU. In light of the fact that her clientele is exclusively comprised of obu bison, I inquired about the consumers who are most often encountered by her: either current students or graduates. During the academic year, she said that it is more typical for her to assist pupils who are currently enrolled at the school. In the summer, she is more likely to assist former students and graduates. But she mostly assists kids who are currently enrolled. When questioned about the potential ethical problems or worries that a career coach may encounter, Ms. Lightsey was unable to name any of them. In light of this, I inquired of her whether or not all of the students and graduates of OBU are eligible to get assistance from her. Alternatively put, are there instances in which Ms. Lightsey is aware that even with her assistance, a certain student or alumni will not be able to find a solution to their problem? It was said by her that all pupils are capable of receiving assistance; but, in order to do so, they must make themselves accessible; they must seek assistance before it is too late. It is recommended by Ms. Lightsey that a job seeker wait no more than three months before graduation before seeking assistance from a career counselor during this time period.
